In its 152nd season in existence UCC Rugby Club announces that Sam O'Sullivan will serve as the 143rd Club Captain. This is a wonderful achievement and he follows in the footsteps of his father, Tadhg O'Sullivan, who was the 110th Club Captain for UCC Rugby in 1989-90. Sam is studying Art History & Sociology at UCC and is expected to graduate in Summer 2025.
The picture above shows Sam in action for UCC Rugby with his Mom, Dad and brother Jack (ex-Munster and now playing for Osaka Red Hurricanes RFC in Japan) watching on.
Daniel Squires and Andrew O'Mahony, fellow senior members of UCC Rugby's talented senior side, ran a close race with Sam for the coveted role. And, like the committed clubmen that they are, they have stepped up to the role of joint Vice-Captain for the club this season.
UCC Rugby's senior season kicks off tomorrow with a home Munster Senior Cup game vs Garryowen RFC at the Mardyke, starting at 14:30. This is the first of two pool games in the Munster Senior Cup. The teams in UCC Rugby's pool are Garryowen RFC and Young Munster RFC.
"I am delighted with the appointment of Sam O’Sullivan as Club Captain. Sam is a great clubman and has given many years of service to UCC RFC and I have no doubt that he will be an excellent captain in the coming season."
UCC Rugby Chairman Vivian E. Nathan
